Hyundai's 2012 SUV lineup reflects the company's gradual, ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and quality, between all-new models. The most significant changes come to the Tucson compact model, with the midsize Santa Fe and more premium-oriented Veracruz soldiering on with minor changes to trim and equipment.

Tucson: Hyundai's cute ute enters the 2012 model year with a renewed emphasis on fuel economy and range, featuring a 1 mpg improvement in highway fuel economy to 32 mpg, as well as a slightly larger fuel tank, going from 14.5 to 15.3 gallons. Contributing to increased efficiency are a new "Active Eco" driving mode, low rolling-resistance tires, solar glass designed to decrease use of the improved-efficiency air conditioning unit.

From the hardware perspective, the Tucson gets larger front brakes, Sachs premium Amplitude Selective Dampers on the Limited trim level, and side repeater mirrors for improved visibility to other drivers.

Santa Fe: Hyundai's bread-and-butter midsize SUV continues into 2012 with minor changes including a redesigned front grille, two new color options; Venetian Red and Cabo Bronze, low rolling-resistance tires for the GLS model, and a leather shift knob. The Santa Fe V-6 already offered a class-leading combined 23 mpg on the front-wheel-drive model, and the four-cylinder model offers a combined 24 mpg.

Veracruz: The big news for Hyundai's luxurious SUV flagship is the addition of an Alpine navigation system on the Limited trim level which adds HD Radio with Multicasting, Pandora internet radio for iPhone, an integrated rearview camera, Bluetooth hands-free calling, and a single-slot CD player. Contrary to popular rumor, it does not in fact also make waffles and cappuccino, or press your shirts.

In other news, the Veracruz gets new 18-inch wheels and a revised grille. The sole powertrain remains a 260-hp 3.8-liter V-6 with a six-speed automatic transmission.
